The names of the executive committee were then requested and their Communistfront affiliations were examined. The committee likewise voted Dr. Barsky. the chairman. in contempt along with the executive committee of the Joint AntiFascist Refugee Committee. The evidence which I have reviewed before you today is only part of the evidence. and a small part at that. which we have compiled against this committee. which has already been cited as a Communist front by the old Dies committee. This Joint AntiFascist Refugee Committee is. beyond any doubt. a Communistfront organization. under the domination of the Communist Party and the world Communist movement. It has been represented to the public as a legitimate welfare organization. engaged in aiding the unfortunate refugees. Actually. it is a vehicle used by the Communist Party to force political. diplomatic. and economic disunity. The evidence definitely reveals that the Joint AntiFascist Refugee Committee is supported and sponsored by the Communist Party. that a preponderance of its offi.cers. sponsors. and supporters are Communists and Communist sympathizers who. by their allegiance to the Commutnist Party. believe in. and advise. advocate. and teach the overthrow. by force and violence. of the Government of the United States. By promoting. aiding. and securing the migration to the United States. Mexico. and other republics of the hemisphere of known Communists who have pledged themselves. as Communists. to the overthrow of our capitalistic form of government. the Joint AntiFascist Refugee Committee has engaged in promoting forces whose objective is the destruction of the Government of the United States. By their machinations. they have made of themselves a subversive organization that should receive prompt attention and prosecution. The contempt proceedings before this House. in respect to the defendants herein named. is clear. and it is our responsibility to the people of the United States to uphold and to respect the dignity of the Congress of the United States by voting these defiant members. of a foreign "ism" in contempt.
