I believe that aliens who live in this country and seek to take advantage of the economic opportunities afforded by living in America should proceed to become citizens of America. But I take it for granted that Mr. Baers failure to become a citizen is because of the fact he has not been cleared of this criminal record made in his youth. I serve notice now. Mr. President. that I shall do all that lies within my power to impress upon the Department of Justice and. If necessary. upon the Congress of the United States. the Importance of seeing to it that this type of deportation injustice which is being contemplated against Mr. Beer shall not come to pass. Mr.
