Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790107180

The disclosures from the various prison camps are still all too fresh in our memory and Hitlers work continues. because although liberation has come to the inmates of the prison camps. their sufferings and their weakened condition is such that hundreds of them are dying daily because of sheer inability to recuperate. I heard over the week end that in 1 prison camp alone. 21.000 emaciated Jews have died since their liberation from their German captors. We are discussing Palestine tcday because of the splendid action just taken by President Truman in an effort to persuade the British Government to immediately admit 100.000 of these refugees into Palestine. The prompt admission of these homeless people into Palestine is the immediate objective. The longtime objectiveand I hope it will soon come to passis the creation. as was contemplated. of a free and democratic Jewish commonwealth.
