Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790106112

Chairman. the future of this part of the world is highly uncertain. The attitude of 400.000.000- people of India toward the United States is of direct and important concern to my country. the United States. While the United States enjoys considerable prestige in India because of our lack of imperialistic influences and because of our policy of justice for weak nations. the principle of. racial discrimination in our immigration laws is most bitterly resented and makes us highly vulnerable to antiAmerican propaganda. .I hope we will not depart from this attitude of justice for the weak nations and that the power we have we will always retain for good and not for evil. Mr. Chairman. during the.war the Japs used this argument against us in India and in China.
