Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790106072

Mr. Chairman. the subject of immigration is always highly controversial. Two yars ago when the bill was before the House to admit 105 Chinese to this country. I voted for it. I look upon this bill with favor and expect to vote for it. Perhaps one of the most compelling speeches made on this floor today was made by the gentleman from Illinois . There are economic and political reasons why this country ought to take this step. Only yesterday I discussed the question of Asia and India with one very high in the service of this Nation who had just returned from India.
