Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790081208

Several suggestions have been presented for the relief of the Japanese population. such as industrialization on a large scale. additional expansion and intensification of agriculture. the practice of birth control. and migration to other areas. All of these involve complex and controversial topics. National tariffs against Japanese goods and immigration laws against Japanese settlers will probably remain for a long time. Many years will pass before the peoples of the Pacific and the Far East will forget the greater eastAsia coprosperity sphere created at the point of the Japanese bayonet. The mainland of Japan has 147.707 square miles. or roughly the area of Montana.
