It made it possible to save the lives of countless thousands of Americans. to save other thousands from wounds and disease. to shorten the war. and to make the reconquest of the Philippines a speedy and signal victory. Itis stated in the Philippine Islands by competent Army authority and without a single contradiction. that there is not a known case of an American refugee. an airman forced down on the islands. or a fleeing soldier whom the Filipinos did not hide. feed. and shelter. and on numerous occasions they planned and made successful his escape. There is not a single reported case where there was any treachery. even though induced by Japanese bribery. on the part of the Filipino people against any American soldier or civilian. Quite frequently Filipinos were tortured and sometimes shot. but not once did they give away any American.
