Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790040947

The C. I. 0. has come out in a public statement advocating the adoption of the treaty. I have a copy of their statement in my office. but do not have it available here at the moment. The Railroad Trainmen withdrew their objection. and while I have not personally contacted the American Federation of Labor. I understand they have also endorsed the treaty. because they have come to understand that this clause was inserted for their benefit. and not to discriminate against them. That is why the clause was inserted. We do not undertake to deal with immigration as such.
