Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790039331

California. and Nevada have a contract. Arizona has a contract fcr 2.800.00 acrefeet of 3A water. plus onehalf of the surplus water less onetwentyfifth which is contracted for by the State of Nevada. California has contracts for 5.362.000 acrefeet4.400.000 acrefeet of 3A water and 962.000 acrefeet of the surplus water. which I understand is estimated to be Californias half of the surplus as provided for under the Boulder Canyon Project Act and the California Exclusion Act. The important thing is that these surplus waters which will have to be used under the compact to supply Mexico with whatever amount may be granted her. are waters which California and Arizona have expected to use. According to the testimony of the Government engineers. the surplus will be adequate to supply the water guaranteed under the Mexican Treaty.
