These persons and their ancestors came from England. Scotland. Wales. Ireland. France. Norway. Denmark. Switzerland. Belgium. Sweden. Holland. Germany. and Finland. Beginning with 1890 there was a tremendous influx of immigration from eastern. central. southern. and southeastern Europe. from Russia. the Balkan States. Turkey. Greece. and Italy. Mdny millions came in. The 85 or 90 percent of our populalation that came from Great Britain and the other countries mentioned urged that this quota be fixed on the 1890 census.
