Session #79 · 1945–47

Speech #790030724

I cannot run to the Committee on Rules every minute and ask for a rule. I want to save that committees time and the time of the House. Somehow I felt that the House would be willing to consider legislation recommended by a number of important Government departments and reported unanimously by a standing committee of the House composed of members from all parts of the country. as my colleague. the gentleman from Mississippi said. he is objecting to all legislation. practically. coming from the Committee on Immigration. He said so in so many words when he said. "In my opinion these bills should not be passed by unanimous consent. In my opinion they should not be passed at all." Is he against the veterans?
