Session #78 · 1943–45

Speech #780250915

Mr. Chairman. in upState New York they have had to bring in a lot of migrant laborers in the past few years to pick peas and beans. They have imported them from points as remote as Jamaica. I am certainly not going to vote $5.000.000 for a census when nobody is worried about how we are going to get those peas and beans picked in upState New York. Instead of money being appropriated for these purposes. I would like to see a little concentration on the part of those in authority to bring about the harvesting of food for victory.
