Session #78 · 1943–45

Speech #780160889

The truth of the matter is that the committee had several bills before it. The committee tried to solve the problem. I want to interject a statement at this point. which I think the Members of the House know. that there is often a wide divergence of views in the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. I respectfully submit when you see that committee get together on a public bill It deserves the earnest consideration of the House. When you see the gentleman from New York. the able chairman of the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. and myself agreeing on an immigration matter. I think it is at least worth considering. The gentleman from California proposes to submit an amendment here and I want to direct my remarks to that amendment.* The bill has been rather thoroughly discussed.
