I thought sure the gentleman from Ohio understood that. Mr. Chairman. I think the question of "opening the gates" should be cleared up. Whether you are in favor or opposed to this legislation. it ought to be understood that this measure puts the Chinese under the quota law and wipes out the only place in our law where a race or people are restricted by name. In 1917 by Presidential order restriction by name was stricken out as to the Japanese. We did that much for th3 Japanese. I think. too. it might be interesting. Mr. Chairman to examine some figures on this subJect.
