Session #78 · 1943–45

Speech #780106506

We cannot afford to open our doors of hospitality to them. In such a horde there are bound to be many "isms" contrary to our aims and Government. It is idle to say they will be returned to their native countries. They will be here to stay. Any attempt to deport them after peace is restored would only bring a new flood of immigration and naturalization bills before Congress. and so many tears the seas themselves would overflow. We have enough problems at home now. even racial ones. which require statesmanship and Christian consideration. We are sitting on powder kegs in many areas.
