All were pretty well satisfied with the present situation. even the Chinese. for I have read some 1.000 pages of recent Chinese historical books since January 1. 1943. and not one of them mentioned the Exclusion Act as a matter of consequence. much less a controlling factor in Chinese life. as now. urged. So far as I am aware the Chinese authorities here never sent a witness to our committee. nor asked for any favor. All the witnesses were of our own choosing.
