We naturally want to deal as generously as possible. but we will be doing the world and ourselves a disservice if we forget for a minute that our first duty is to our own people. and our first responsibility is to insure our own security and welfare during the remainder of the war and the difficult readjustment period still ahead. Mr. Speaker. this rule should be voted down. because the proposal is purely emotional. it does not help our national Interest. it does not serve our country. We are at war. All of these proposals to amend our immigration and naturalization laws should be delayed until after the war when we can consider the problem in the light of conditions existing at that time.
