The distinguished gentleman from Ohio is far too brilliant to contend that the fixing of citizenship and the fixing of the qualifications necessary for the exercise of the elective franchise have anything to do with each other. I assume. I am sure he knows that the Constitution of the United States does fix citizenship and declare all people who are nativeborn or naturalized to be citizens. but -that the Supreme Court of the United States in six different cases has held that citizenship has nothing whatever to do with the right to vote. I just wished that the gentleman might have that called to his attention so that it might correct the error into which he inadvertently fell.
