Mr. Speaker. I am satisfied that if the membership of this House had heard the request made by members of the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. which committee reported this resolution. their tes.timony giving the need for the passage of the resolution. there .would be no op-: position to it. The resolution came.to the Committee on Rules by the unanimous vote of the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. The Rules Committee believe that theImmigration Committee is justified in urging this resolution and the power that will be given to that committee. Understand. this is.not a special committee that is being provided for. but it merely gives additional power to the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. so that it may be. able to penetrate many of the intricate questions that have arisen due to the war. It is well known that there are many provisions in our immigration and naturalization laws which should be amended. We have many people in this country who are alien enemies. but under our law as I view it. and as it is reported. we cannot do anything with them. All the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization desires is the right to investigate and compile and. try to bring. about amendments to our laws so that a proper bill may be brought in that will give the Department. and the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization. certain additional -powers which. they should. have.
