Session #77 · 1941–43

Speech #770032545

In that connection I have before me only newspaper clippings. I have nothing of an authentio nature. such as the letter from the Maritime Commission. which has been brought to my attention by the able Senator. in which mention is made of the fact that many refugees have been cornIng to the country aboard freighters. All the information I have had. either by word of mouth or by letter. from persons who have actually made the passage. is to the effect that In innumerable instances aiiens and refugees have been given preference. I can speak personally with reference to one trip. That was the trip I mentioned a moment ago. at the time I came back from Le Havre in September 1939.
