Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760296444

Mr. Speaker. I want to say with reference to the Committee on Immigration. that I reserve the right to criticize any man on this floor in a legitimate way. Probably no two men on this floor have criticized each other more severely or more consistently than the gentleman from Pennsylvania and your humble servant. but we have done it. I hope. in a way that was legitimate and was intended to redound to the common good. If a member of the Committee on Immigration does anything wrong. I have the same right to criticize him as if he were a member of my own committee. and I shall not hesitate to do so. The gentleman from New York raises the question that some of these men he wants to let in by a special dispensation might help in the defense program.
