Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760261243

Mr. Speaker. I requested the gentleman from California [Mr. LEE E. GEYER to be here this morning to hear what I had to say. Yesterday he assumed the position as speaking for the American Legion. The gentleman from California has been diametrically opposed to what the American Legion was trying to accomplish. namely. the deportation of Harry Bridges. The gentleman from California defended him on this floor before the Rules Committee and at other times when the matter has been brought up. I cannot reconcile these two opposite positions. Neither can I accept the gentleman from California as spokesman for the American Legion. as he has certainly been against their program on the Harry Bridges matter.
