Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760252341

Mr. Chairman. the duties of a member of the Ways and Means Committee are so exacting and so confining in time that I have found it rather necessary to limit my appearance on the floor to matters directly concerning that important committee. But today I cannot help joining in the humanitarian plea that is going up in this House to care for these refugee children. I was in my district about the time this bill was introduced and I told the press at that time that so far ag I was concerned I believed in cutting every bit of red tape possible in order to accomplish the purposes provided for in the bill. I recall being In London the same day to which the gentleman who just preceded me referred. as attending the Roman Catholic cathedral.
