There was some fear intimated on the part of the Senator from New Mexico that there would be no investigation of the San Juan project for a long time. While I did not have the pleasure of hearing the argument of the Senator in the committee. I have seen in the hearings that the Commissioner of Immigration has stated. as I interpret his language. that he is going to proceed immediately with the investigation of that project. I understand that the Interior Department has also unequivocally stated that if this bill is passed. and there is available no fund with which to do the work. it will obtain a deficiency appropriation to start immediately the investigation of this project. So I think the Senator from New Mexico has accomplished something.
