There are many foreignborn persons. many aliens. in this country. here by invitation. here by permission. In dealing with all questions which .arise out of this acute situation.. and which may become even more acute. the people of the several communities. the people who are responsible for community attitude. should feel a tremendous responsibility and duty to protect these minorities. these people in o6ur. midst. against any unreasonable. unwarranted acts. espe- cdally on the part of irresponsible people. which may amount to persecutionby a majorityof a helpless minority. I donot .at all -mean.that the people of this country should be indulgent - with reference to what is called -subversive activities. -this. -"fifth columnist." whether alien. .naturalized. or native. I - mean people. -scattered- throughout . the- country who are behaving themselves .wh01happen..hot to be American citizens or are foreignborn.
