It is almost. if not quite. an ex post facto law. The Constitution of the United States says: No bill of attainder or ex post facto law shall be passed. (Art. I. sec. 9.) I happen to have been the chairman of a special subcommittee of the Committee on the Judiciary. charged with the duty of making the investigation under the resolution for the impeachment of the Secretary of Labor. the Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization. and the Solicitor of Labor. In that investigation we read every word of the evidence in the files of the Labor Department. and the report of the Dies committee. against Harry Bridges. I doubt if. anything could be said In condemnation of Harry Bridges which I would question. Not only do I have a fixed conviction that he should be deported. but I have tried as-
