Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760225215

I would state to the gentleman from Wisconsin that I am informed that we have in the employ of the Federal Government people who have been in the United States only 4 or 5 or 6 weeks and who are now drawing $200 a month. $2.400 a year. when our own people are walking the streets looking for work. It seems to me that the Government has set itself aside as an employment agency for foreign refugees of all different sorts and types that have come into the United States. Surely I want to see these people taken care of. but I cannot see why the United States should be used as a dumping ground for every undesirable alien not wanted by any other nation. Mr. Browder is the chief Communist in the United States.
