Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760214662

Mr. Chairman. I am highly in favor of this resolution approving the Presidents transfer of the Bureau of Immigration to the Department of Justice. I believe the most dangerous influences we have in this country today are what are known as the "fifth columns." They have been operating here for a long time. They began with the sitdown strikes. I have never doubted that that policy was dictated from Moscow. They did the same thing in France. and today France is paying a bitter penalty for those activities. I want to call attention to the fact that one of the most cruel hnd inhuman activities of these "fifth columns" has been with reference to the Negroes of this country.
