I will say to the Senator from Washington. I prepared and introduced a bill which contains some ideas that were original with meat least at that time I thought they wereand other ideas which were suggested as an outgrowth of the hearings before the subcommittee which was appointed by the junior Senator from Georgia [Mr. RussELL]. the chairman of the Immigration Committee. The bill which I introduced. and which is now on the calendar. known as S. 2830. provided that at the time the census for 1940 was taken the census takers should inquire and ascertain certain facts from the alien population of the United States. Among other things they should be required to obtain. of course. the name and address. the place of birth. the date and port of entry Into this country of the alien. and whether or not the alien had filed a declaration of intention to become a citizen.
