I am thoroughly in favor of every feature of the bill. and I sincerely hope that it will be possible to pass the bill in the Senate at the present session. because it will do exactly what the able Senator from Texas says it will do. As the Senator knows. I have introduced a number of bills which are pending before the Committee on Immigration. dealing with deportatioti of alien criminals. limitation of immigration. with subversive and unAmerican activities. and with fingerprinting and registration of aliens. I have not been able to have those bills reported from the committee. but that is no fault of the able chairman. the Senator from Georgia . I further wish to say to the Senator from Texas that I shall support the Smith bill as enthusiastically as I .would support my own bill. because I declare to the Senator and to all others that I have no pride whatsoever of authorship.
