I am very much interested in the Senators discussion. and with relation to the "fifth column." the deporting of aliens and things of that kind. I call his attention to the Smith bill. which has already passed the House of Representatives and has been before the Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate for a considerable period. In fact. the Judiciary Committee at the close of the last session reported the bill favorably to the Senate. but on motion it was recommitted to the Committee on the Judiciary. The chairman of that committee appointed the Senator from Texas . the Senator from Arkansas . and the Senator from Connecticut . as a subcommittee to consider the bill.
