Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760186612

There are aliens in this country today that you are attempting to exclude who are becoming citizens daily. If I had my way. you would have no alien population. if some of the bills recommended by the committee of which I have the honor to be chairman were adopted. Insofar as the aliens who have no right to be here are concerned. they are being deported at the rate of from 7.000 to 9.000 a year. Now. ydu are trying to exclude aliens. people who have been here for 30 or 40 years. who possibly could not read the whole Constitution of the United States and know all about the history of the Government. and therefore were unable to qualify for citizenship. They have reared five or six or more children in this country.
