In addition. it was necessary for the county Board of Education to supply $27.560 from the unapportioned fund. This has been appropriated during the past 2 years. and if the amount had been raised by taxation over a 2year period. it would have meant an additional rate of $1.40 per year. Other school dstricts affected by the influx of migrants are as follows: Farmersvillevaluation. $376.135. school tax in 1935. 68 cents. in 1939. $1.11. Woodvillevaluation. $707.160. school tax 54 cents in 1935. and in 1939. school tax. $2.22. Pleasant View districtvaluation. $796.400. school tax in 1935. 61 cents. in 1939. school tax. $1. Similar conditions exist in other counties in California. and. I ask you. Is it any wonder that the taxpayers in those districts are greatly opposed to the construction of migrant camps and the concentration of migrants? In Tulare County. during .the past 5 years. there has been considerable construction to meet the need placed upon the schools by the influx of migrants. Eight entirely new school plants have been constructed. two of these are attended by migrants children only. The county and district tax levies for schools have increased in the past 5 years. as follows: Percent Kings County --------------------------------------------- 282 Tulare County -------------------------------------------- 270 Kern County ---------------------------------------------- 186 Madera County ----------------------------------144 Fresno County -----------------------------------134 The average daily attendance in schools has increased as much as 100 to 150 percent in this period. one district showing an increase of 300 percent.
