Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760140657

A great deal of time has been devoted to the hearings before the committee. and there have been a great many questions asked. and while there are some trivial cases of what you might call a violation of law. there are other cases that have been pending for some time. which both ofthe gentlemen say ought to be knocked out. I agree that some of the cases should be knocked out. because we do not want any such bills to pass. but as a general rule. every one of these cases is a meritorious case. I am in favor of some commission being formed. but at the same time the Committee on Immigration has done the work with respect to these particular cases. They have been doing this work for the almost 8 years that I have been on the committee. and if you are going to ask the committee to do the work all over again and make a report on these parties. it will be a duplication of effort.
