Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760138777

Mr. President. in answer to the statement and inquiry of the Senator. I will say that if under the bill an alien were to admit that he had been guilty of espionage or sabotage. and was thereby. under the terms of the bill. subject to deportation. through the introduction of a private bill in Congress for the relief of that alien relief could be obtained. Numerous bills of that character are on the calendar. having been introduced for the relief of aliens by Members of the Senate and the House. If an alien in this country admits that he is guilty of espionage. or if an alien admits that he is guilty of sabotage. I say that he ought to be deported. and this bill ought to be enacted in order that our officials may have sufficient authority to bring about the deportation of such an alien criminal.
