He might be a member one day and resign. and thereafter be active in his opposition to that type of organization. Yet 25 years later. If that fact should be proved. the bill as it is now would require his deportation. Under this amendment. if the Government proves in the deportation case that the alien has been a member of this organization the Government has made out a case and deportation would follow unless the alien would then sustain the burden of proving two things: First. that he terminated his membership 5 years prior to the beginning of the deportation proceedings. and. second. that he had done so in good faith and not for the purpose of avoiding deportation.
