Mr. Chairman. the purpose of this amendment is to perfect the language of the bill and to make it more easily and properly administered by the proper officials of our Government. and to make it clear that the fine or imprisonment for violation is to be imposed only after conviction. and to make the violators deportable only after conviction by the courts. I can see no objection to this amendment. It certainly makes it clear that the bill is aimed only at violators of the law. Those of us who have read this bill carefully. those of .us who are interested in this problem. know that there is no Member of this Congress. regardless of the section from which he comes. who is interested in persecution. or has any personal feelings against a lawabiding alien who comes to this country to become a good citizen.
