Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760103394

Wait a minute. my good friend. I am trying to answer the gentlemans question. Under present law he must be convicted of two felonies involving moral turpitude. Those convictions could take place at any time during his stay in this country. If he is convicted of one crime involving moral turpitude during the first 5 years of his residence after his entry he must be deported. Under the proposed plan an alien would have to be deported upon conviction of one crime involving moral turpitude. even a minor offense involving moral turpitude. whether he is here 2 years. 3 years. 10 years. or 20 years.
