Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760055612

If putting my house in order means that my mouth is to be closed on the floor of the Senate in trying to keep out of this country millions from foreign lands who would take the jobs of American men and women. I do not want to put my house in order. If putting my house in order means that I must refrain from doing my best to bring about the enactment of laws for the deportation of alien criminals and undesirables who are trying to undermine our Government. I do not want to put my house in order. If putting my house in order means that never again shall I say that we ought to banish naziism. fascism. and communism because. as I have said a thousand times. there is room in this country only for Americanism. then I do not want to put my house in order.
