Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760053422

I am only sorry this. bill. with all- due respect. to the gentleman who drew the bill. is not termed as "the Americanization bill of the Seventysixth Congress." because it deals with that group which has been spreading unAmerican propaganda and hiding behind the cloak of technicalities. Let us think of the group to which this billapplies. The men andwomen in this group are ineligible to become citizens. They cannot join the military forces of our country. they cannot vote. but they cannot be deported on account of a mere technicality. When I speak of a technicality I think of the man who raised his right hand and agreed to lay down his life in defense of our country and the StarSpangled Banner. When he marched into battle. did a mere technicality preserve his life?
