Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760053418

Mr. Chairman. I am in hearty accord with the gentlemans purpose. just as I was with the last amendment offered. but this would be the situation that would follow. This bill seeks to deport all those who have been ordered deported and we refer to the immigration acts that have been in effect from 1917 down to date. This is not part of any of this body of deportation law and therefore you cannot make such a change in this bill and expect to get results. particularly with the retroactive effect. which is one of the things I am most interested in in this act.
