When American pioneers pushed westward they drove cattle from the Northeast to the Middle West. The sturdy. industrious. and frugal Scandinavian. German. Swiss. Dutch. English. Irish. and other immigrants from the Old World contributed to that splendid body of pioneers who laid the firm foundations for the 185.000 dairy farms. the 2.000 cheese factories. and other dairy plants which make up the colossal presentday dairy industry of Wisconsin. Those great pioneers selected Wisconsin because of its many natural advantages. including its temperate climate. fertile grassproducing soil. and cool crystalclear spring water. Seventyfive years ago this month the foundation was laid for the flourishing cheese industry in Wisconsin by Mr.
