I heartily agree with the statement attributed to our Ambassador to England. Joseph P. Kennedy. when he told the British Government that drastic restriction of Jewish immigration Into Palestine and the abolition of the British mandate over the whole land "would have a disastrous effect on public opinion in the United States." The Balfour declaration which promised a national home for the Jewish people was made in the most trying period of the World War. It was made to bring before the Jews of the world the high sincere principles of the allied cause for democracy. It was made also from an allied point of view to counteract the evident counter efforts of the enemy themselves to win over the Jews in Germany who certainly had been treated by old Germany in a way that had won their allegiance.
