Session #76 · 1939–41

Speech #760008285

I desire at this time to bring to the attention of the Members of this body the fact that we never shall be able to ascertain the number of aliens within the confines of the United States until we shall have enacted some sort of legislation which would provide for the mandatory registration and fingerprinting thereof. To that end. last year I introduced a bill calling for the registration and fingerprinting of aliens. At that time the bill was before the Immigration Committee of the Senate. and my recollection is that a similar bill was introduced in the House by my colleague. Hon. JOE STARNES. of Alabama.
