Mr. President. I know the very great interest of the distinguished Senator from New York and the distinguished Senator from Ohio in this bill. The Senator from Ohio personally appeared before the Committee on Immigration. and I think his plea was very largely responsible for the favorable report which was made. in conjunction with the great activity of the Senator from New York. It is undoubtedly true that the bill would confer citizenship on some very worthy persons to whom reference has been made. No one knows. however. just how far reaching the bill would be. The committee was unable to ascertain just how many persons would be affected by the legislation.
