Session #75 · 1937–39

Speech #750242640

The SwedishAmericans stand out among all the races in the storm and stress of the Revolutionary period. Men and women of Swedish stock shared in the anxieties and helped to make the decisions in the great crisis of the Revolution. For nearly 50 years after the Revolution immigration of all kinds was light and Swedish immigrants were very few. Down to the Civil War few Swedes were to be found anywhere in the Eastern States. Two hundred years after the colonization on the Delaware. a new stream began to flow from the ancient towns and villages of Sweden toward the New World in the west.
