The gentleman will recall that some years ago Congress enacted an immigration law. the purpose of which was to keep a large number of aliens from coming into this country from other lands to displace the working men of this country. As I see it. the foreigntrade policy being carried out by this administration is nullifying the immigration law in that our workers are being compelled to compete with those who would have come here had it not been for this law. but who now remain at home where they are working at a fraction of the wage scale which prevails in this country. Our labor has to meet that competition. Indeed. it would be better if we allowed these people to come here than to have their products come here. because if they were here they would eat the products of our farms and wear the clothing and shoes produced in our factories.
