That is correct. Many of them come south with a mill which has sometimes been considered unfit for human use in New England. and when the get down into the South they seem to consider that a southerner is worth only about onefourth of what a man is worth who lives in New England. I myself never fully subscribed to that doctrine. I rather subscribe to the gospel that a man who is born in Alabama. and who can do as much work as a man born in any State in New England. or in any country across the water who emigrates to New England. is entitled to the same pay if he does the work.
