Session #75 · 1937–39

Speech #750086876

The new leader is aptly described in the American Magazine as being the successor of all who preceded him. and he shows a great deal of aggressiveness and disregard of the most fundamental rights of American citizenship. He is a citizen of this country. apparently. I suppose by naturalization. and I have a good mind to investigate into the circumstances under which he was able to convince an American judge of the fact that he was eligible for American citizenship on his "record." I do not know how many of you gentlemen know it. but to become a citizen of the United States one must take an oath of allegiance to this Government. It is this same Fritz Kuhn who on his own statement went to Germany about a year ago and pledged the allegiance of all American Germans in this country to Adolf Hitler. As a matter of fact. it is required of everyone who joins the Nazi organization in the United States. which now calls itself the GermanAmerican Bund. to pledge his allegiance to Adolf Hitler.
