Some of us Americans may laugh at this puppet show of English royalty. but can we see what "fools we be" on our side of the ocean? Our own economic history may be reduced to allegory. There was a shipwrecked crew that sought refuge on an unknown island. They found but one inhabitant of the island. He claimed to be the owner of the island. The owner met the survivors and said: "This is my island. You cannot land. except on my terms." Right here these immigrants made a fatal mistake. They should have challenged this claim to a monopoly of the island. But they had lived in such countries as England and America and their minds were perverted by unsound property laws.
